Считалось, что за пределами нашего мира есть существа, полностью отличные от тех растений и животных, что нам знакомы. Люди боялись этих странных созданий с древнейших времен. И с тех давних пор стали называть их муши.
Также есть и люди, изучающие этих загадочных существ. Главный герой аниме - Мушиши (специалист по муши) Гинко. Он обладает особыми возможностями, которые позволяют ему видеть и чувствовать муши. Путешествуя без какой-либо конкретной цели, Гинко всегда готов помочь нуждающимся в нем людям. Он спокоен, практически безэмоционален, умен и рационален. Просто-таки ходячий идеал. Разве что портит эту картину его бесконечное курение, причем, это не просто привычка, и отсутствие левого глаза.
